Q: Do you offer discounts?

Q: What about group rates?

A: Kayaking, fishing and camping are great activities for school, camp, scout, religious, corporate, club and youth groups. They help build a sense of teamwork and give your group a shared experience they won't soon forget. At South Texas kayak, we have been introducing groups to our adventures in South Texas since 2006. Our friendly professional staff and state-of-the-art equipment will make your experience fun and trouble free. Q: What safety measures are in place?

A: Personal safety is paramount and South Texas Kayak has an excellent safety record. Before every trip a weather and river risk assessment is conducted. Our veteran guides have attended numerous water safety courses. Additionally, each guide carries a throw-rope, first-aid kit, cell phone and two-way radio (when using two guides).

Q: Do I have to wear a life jacket?

A: Yes. Our guides all lead-by-example and wear personal floatation devices (PFD). Your safety is important to us, so we request you wear one also.

Q: Why the liability waiver?

A: Your signature affirms that you understand that no matter how many safety precautions are taken, water sports still contain a certain amount of risk. Your signature also affirms that you do not have any physical or mental conditions that would preclude you from successfully completing a guided adventure with South Texas kayak.

Q: What kind of rapids are on the Upper Guadalupe River?

A: The Upper Guadalupe River consists of Class I (moving water with a couple of riffles and small waves) and Class II (easy rapids with waves up to 3 feet).

Q: How long are the paddle trips?

A: Trip duration depends on factors such as river and weather conditions along with individual athletic abilities. You can expect to be on the water somewhere between two and four hours.

Q: What should I wear?

A: During warmer months (April – September) recommend clothing consists of a hat, polarized sunglasses, t-shirt, swimsuits and sturdy sandals (or old tennis shoes). In the cooler months (October – March) recommended clothing typically includes a hat, polarized sunglasses, wet suit, rain parka, rain pants, gloves and booties. Your guide will advise you prior to your adventure of what type of clothing to wear.

Q: What should I bring on with me?

A: Our Trips are all inclusive; we bring everything. Our mission is to provide you with a full service guided adventure that does not give you a shopping list of stuff you have to bring, and nickel and dime you once you arrive. Our pricing includes everything*. We provide you with the shuttle service, kayak, paddle, life jacket, whistle, bottled water, snacks, and more. At the end of your trip, you will receive a link to our online photo album where you may download (FREE) pictures we have taken during your adventure. * (state park entrance fees may apply)

Q: What are the age restrictions?

A: 12 and above. Clients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Q: What type of kayaks do you use?

A: South Texas Kayak uses Native Watercraft Sit-on-Top kayaks.

Q: Do you have double (tandem) kayaks?

A: Not at this time.

Q: Do you rent kayaks?

A: Not at this time. We recommend renting kayaks from Texas Pack & Paddle.

Q: Do you sell kayaks?

A: Not at this time. For the absolute best deal on kayaks and other paddling accessories, we recommend LAKELINE Watersports.

Q: Do you allow alcohol on trips?

A: Alcohol is NOT permitted during any group adventure or on State Park property. Alcohol (in moderation) IS permitted during private adventures and off State Park property.

Q: What time do South Texas Kayak adventures start?

A: In the warmer months, South Texas Kayak adventures normally start at 8:30am. In the cooler months, we start a little later in the morning. After registering and confirming your reservation, you will receive detailed trips instructions with an exact start time and other important details. All adventures start on time, so please be prompt!

Q: What is your gratuity policy?

A: We believe you will find each staff member committed to making your adventure safe, fun, and memorable. Gratuity is not required, however, If you would like to recognize service that you felt was extra special, please give it directly to your guide, or it can be arranged in advance for business expense reasons.
